HANOI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) rose 4.31 percent in the first five months of 2026 from a year earlier, the National Statistics Office said on Wednesday.

The increase was mainly driven by higher prices of housing, water, electricity, fuel and construction materials, which rose 6.64 percent year on year during the period.

In May alone, the CPI increased 0.29 percent from the previous month, largely due to higher electricity and household water prices amid rising demand during hot weather, as well as increases in construction material, housing rental and gasoline prices.

Core inflation in the five-month period went up 4.04 percent year on year, according to the office.
