TOKYO, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended lower Tuesday, as investors locked in gains following recent surges.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 200.09 points, or 0.30 percent, from Monday at 66,734.24.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 16.46 points, or 0.42 percent, lower at 3,924.24.
Stocks were sold after recent rallies to record highs, with the benchmark Nikkei having gained over 2,200 points in the last two sessions.
Investor sentiment was also dampened as benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures climbed back above 90 U.S. dollars per barrel on reports that Iran has halted negotiations with the United States, analysts said. ■
