JAKARTA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has developed a second-generation pyrolysis technology capable of converting plastic waste into industrial fuel, with a processing capacity of 1.25 tons of waste per day.

Agus Kismanto, a researcher at BRIN, said on Monday that the technology, named Liquid Fuel from Plastic Waste with Advanced Pyrolysis System for Industrial Scale, employs a continuous-multi-stage operating system that enables plastic waste to be fed directly into the reactor without prior sorting.

According to Agus, the new system is being further developed to increase its processing capacity to up to five tons of plastic waste per day, up from about 400 kg per day handled by the first-generation version.

He said the technology is expected to support the expansion of waste-processing facilities across the country by enhancing the economic value of plastic waste and promoting more sustainable waste management.
