TOKYO, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The body of an elderly woman was found in a mountainous area of Akita City in northern Japan on Tuesday morning in a suspected bear attack, local media reported.

Local police received an emergency call from a family member of the victim at about 7:20 a.m. local time, saying, "She might have been attacked by a bear," public broadcaster NHK reported.

Police officers searched the area and found the woman's body in a forest near her house, the report said.

According to the police, the woman, who lived on her own, was likely mowing the grass when she was attacked. A sickle and a bloody towel were found near her house.

A bear had been spotted in the neighborhood in the early morning on the same day and the animal was killed at around 9:40 a.m. local time, the report said.

The police are investigating the case, suspecting the woman was likely killed by a bear.

Also on Tuesday, in northeastern Japan's Fukushima City, four people were attacked and injured by a bear, with all sent to the hospital and conscious.
