JAKARTA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Whoosh high-speed railway has added six daily trips to accommodate a surge in passenger demand during the post-holiday travel period, increasing the number of services from 62 to 68 per day, operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said on Monday.

KCIC Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said travel demand was dominated by the Bandung-Jakarta route, which accounted for 78 percent of total ticket sales.

The additional services have increased Whoosh's daily seating capacity from about 36,400 to 40,000 seats, she said.

Whoosh, Southeast Asia's first high-speed railway, operates at speeds of up to 350 km per hour, reducing travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from around four hours to about 45 minutes.
