CAIRO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed on Monday after a vehicle plunged into a canal in Giza province, south of Cairo, when the driver lost control of it, state-run Ahram Online news website reported.
The accident occurred after the vehicle swerved off the road, overturned, and fell into the Mariouteya Canal in Giza, the report said.
Police, rescue teams and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The vehicle was later retrieved from the canal, and the victims' bodies were recovered, it said.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver's loss of control of the steering wheel was the initial cause of the accident. Further investigation is underway, it added. ■
