BANGKOK, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Thailand and Vietnam agreed to promote bilateral trade and deepen cooperation in security, economy, and technology as Vietnamese President To Lam wrapped up his official visit here on Thursday.

During their meeting, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and To Lam, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, set a target of pushing two-way trade to 25 billion U.S. dollars a year "as soon as possible" and endorsed a "Three Connects" strategy linking future-industry supply chains, local economies, and green-growth policies, with energy security a parallel priority.

The two sides also exchanged a plan of action for 2026-2031, implementing their comprehensive strategic partnership, diplomatic notes naming lead agencies for bilateral science and innovation cooperation, and an academic agreement.

In a joint press conference, Anutin emphasized that the new action plan sets a clear, concrete direction for the next phase of Thai-Vietnamese cooperation, adding that the two countries should jointly drive sustainable development in the Mekong sub-region.

For his part, To Lam praised Thailand's socio-economic progress and its pivotal role in strengthening the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) community.

He reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to partnering with Thailand to foster regional peace, stability, and mutual prosperity.
