NEW DELHI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- At least three people died and five others went missing when the boat they were traveling in capsized in a river in India's eastern state of Bihar on Thursday, confirmed the local police.
The mishap occurred in the river Ganga near Umanath Ghat in the state capital Patna. Seven people were safely rescued. There were around 15 people on board the ill-fated boat.
Media reports quoted an eyewitness as saying that most of the victims were women. They were crossing the river to fetch vegetables.
"The boat was suddenly caught in strong winds in the middle of the river and capsized," stated the police.
Efforts were on to find those missing, added the police. ■
