PYONGYANG, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has overseen weapon tests involving lightweight multi-purpose missile launching system and multiple tactical cruise missile weapon system, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Wednesday.

The latest weapon tests, conducted on Tuesday by the Missile Administration and the Academy of Defence Sciences, analyzed and estimated the power of special mission warhead of tactical ballistic missile, the reliability of 240mm controlled artillery rocket with an expanded firing range and an ultra-precision autonomous navigation system, and the AI-guided hit accuracy of tactical cruise missile, said the report.

The tactical cruising shell, featuring a combination of the ultra-precision autonomous navigation system, the TERCOM (terrain contour matching) navigation system and an AI terminal guidance function, is a powerful weapon system that can make an ultra-precision strike against any target 100 km away by multi-mode flight based on gliding and propelling, it said.

Kim said that the weapon systems tests were a clear signal of an upgrade of the country's military force and showed great technical progress in the strengthening of its combat power, according to the report.

Defending the security of sovereignty and guaranteeing the socialist development with powerful war deterrence is the main task of the country's armed forces and defense science sector, he said.

The DPRK leader also outlined important tasks for stepping up the steady growth of the country's defense capabilities and developing ultra-modern military hardware.
