NAIROBI, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will host the 13th International Flower Trade Expo (IFTEX) next week to showcase its floriculture sector, industry organizers announced on Tuesday.
The premier flower exhibition, scheduled for June 2 to 4 in Nairobi, is expected to attract about 5,000 visitors and 210 exhibitors, including growers, breeders, consolidators and service providers.
Lina Jamwa-Musibi, communications manager at the Kenya Flower Council, told the media that the expo will provide stakeholders an opportunity to showcase innovations, forge partnerships and explore new market opportunities.
"The trade fair will enable stakeholders in the floriculture industry to exchange the latest developments in the sector," she said.
Calistus Kundu, acting director general of the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), highlighted the flower industry's role in supporting the East African nation's economy.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Isdorah Odundo, AFA's principal market and products development officer, Kundu said the sector generates foreign exchange earnings, creates employment and supports local livelihoods.
He added that the upcoming expo will strengthen Kenya's position as a leading hub for flower production and trade while enhancing market access for local growers. ■
