Shenzhou-23 astronauts enter Tiangong space station

The three astronauts aboard China's Shenzhou-23 spaceship have entered the Tiangong space station and met with another astronaut trio on Monday, starting a new round of in-orbit crew handover.

The Shenzhou-21 crew aboard Tiangong opened the hatch at 5:13 a.m. (Beijing Time) and welcomed the new arrivals, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The two crews then took group pictures for the eighth space get-together in China's aerospace history.

Iran says "conclusion" reached with U.S. on many issues, but agreement not imminent

Iran and the United States have "reached a conclusion on a major part of the issues under discussion," but the signing of an agreement is not imminent, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.

He made the remarks at a weekly press conference while commenting on the latest progress related to Pakistan-mediated talks between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the war.

Baghaei said developments over the past few days were the result of several weeks of talks mediated by Pakistan, adding that some other countries also offered good offices during the process.

Trump rejects deal allowing Iran to obtain nuclear weapons

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the agreement with Iran will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal at all, adding that he would not sign an agreement that paves the way for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.

Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social.

Iranian delegation in Qatar for talks on potential peace deal with U.S.

A high-level Iranian delegation arrived in Doha on Monday for talks with Qatari officials on a possible peace agreement with the United States, according to Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency.

The visit by the delegation, which includes Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, among others, aims to advance diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan in recent weeks to end the "war of aggression imposed" by the United States and Israel against Iran, Mehr said.

During the visit, Ghalibaf is expected to meet with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on bilateral issues as well as negotiations to end the war and lift sanctions, Mehr said in a separate report.

Nigerian President Tinubu wins ruling party nomination for 2027 election

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has secured the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections, pledging to continue economic reforms and promote national development.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday after emerging as the APC presidential candidate in the party's nationwide direct primary, Tinubu said his administration would continue pursuing policies aimed at economic expansion, industrialization, energy security, infrastructure development, and food security.

Africa CDC, WHO warn over rapid Ebola spread with over 900 suspected cases

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda is spreading rapidly, with more than 900 suspected cases and over 200 suspected deaths, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday.

Addressing a high-level virtual ministerial meeting, Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya said that since the DRC declared its 17th Ebola outbreak on May 15, a total of 906 suspected cases and 204 probable deaths have been recorded.

A total of 106 cases have been laboratory-confirmed across the two affected countries, including five in Uganda, all linked to imported cases from the DRC, he said. "The numbers are changing on a daily basis. This is too much. We cannot afford to have more Africans dying, and we are still at the peak of this outbreak."

Explosion threat removed at California aerospace facility, evacuation order remains

The threat of an explosion due to pressure buildup inside a toxic chemical tank at an aerospace manufacturing facility in Garden Grove, Southern California, has been eliminated, local fire authorities said early Monday.

Interim Fire Chief of the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) TJ McGovern said the risk of a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion, known as a BLEVE, was "off the table" following a hazardous materials emergency response launched Thursday.

Fire officials said temperatures and pressure levels inside the tank had stabilized and were continuing to decline.

Netanyahu says Israel to intensify Lebanon strikes to "crush" Hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel will increase the intensity of strikes in Lebanon to "crush" Hezbollah.

In a recorded video statement, he said Israel is at war with Hezbollah and that in recent weeks the Israeli military has killed more than 600 of the group's militants in Lebanon.

Netanyahu added that he has ordered "to press the gas pedal even harder," and that Israel will "crush" Hezbollah.

He also said that a special team is working to deal with Hezbollah's fiber optic drone attacks.

New positive case of hantavirus confirmed among quarantined Spaniards

The Spanish Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed a new positive case of hantavirus among the 14 Spaniards who were among the passengers of the cruise ship MV Hondius affected by an outbreak of the disease while crossing the Atlantic Ocean in April.

The 14 Spanish nationals from the vessel were evacuated from the island of Tenerife in a tightly controlled operation on May 10 and have since remained in preventive quarantine at Madrid's Gomez Ulla Central Defense Hospital.

The latest positive case was detected during routine PCR testing conducted under the isolation and control system already in place, according to the ministry.

Senegalese president appoints new prime minister

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo as the country's new prime minister, state broadcaster RTS reported Monday.

Lo previously served as a minister attached to the president in charge of monitoring, steering and evaluating Senegal's national transformation agenda, "Senegal 2050." He has also served as the minister-secretary-general of the government and as the national director of the Central Bank of West African States for Senegal.

Faye dismissed former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and dissolved the government on Friday, according to a presidential statement.

2 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike in S. Gaza

Two Palestinians, including a child, were killed and 20 others were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a camp for displaced people in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, told Xinhua that Hanan Mahmoud, 31, and six-year-old Menna Abu Labda were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the "Ghaith Camp" in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis.

Basal said 20 others, including children and women, were wounded in the attack, some seriously, and taken to hospitals for treatment.
