BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1 percent in April 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, mainly driven by higher food prices, according to the country's Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, local media reported on Tuesday.

DEPS stated on Monday that the rise was largely attributed to a 0.8 percent increase in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, while the Non-Food index recorded a decline of 0.1 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in April rose by 0.5 percent from March, mainly driven by a 0.7 percent increase in the Non-Food index. The Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index declined by 0.1 percent during the same period.
