MADRID, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Valencia forward Diego Lopez is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the club confirmed he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the final game of the La Liga season.
The 24-year-old was injured during Valencia's 3-1 home win over FC Barcelona as the club closed out a difficult campaign on a positive note.
Valencia said on its official website that medical tests confirmed Lopez had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, with treatment options to be determined in the coming hours.
The injury is expected to require surgery and could keep Lopez out for most of next season.
Lopez has scored 20 goals in 107 appearances for Valencia and was part of Spain's gold medal-winning squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics. ■
