TOKYO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese government is set to draw up a supplementary budget of more than 3 trillion yen (around 19 billion U.S. dollars) for fiscal 2026 to cushion the impact of rising energy prices stemming from the prolonged tensions in the Middle East, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Monday.
The draft budget could be submitted to parliament next week, she told reporters.
Takaichi also said the government will tap 500 billion yen from reserve funds to help households cover utility bills during the peak summer months of July through September, when air conditioning demand spikes. ■
