MOGADISHU, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Somali government to strengthen the country's security framework.
El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, special representative of the chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission and head of AUSSOM, emphasized the mission's ongoing role in supporting Somali-led initiatives to stabilize the region, protect local communities, and foster long-term peace and economic development.
"Despite ongoing challenges, the Somali people continue to demonstrate remarkable resolve in rebuilding their nation and advancing reconciliation and development," Diene said in a statement to mark Africa Day.
He noted that Somalia's recovery reflects the strength of collective African action.
The AU envoy commended the relentless efforts and sacrifices made by Somalia's security forces, its people, and AU personnel to restore peace and stability in the country, adding that Somalia's recovery reflects the strength of collective African action.
Diene also paid tribute to countries contributing troops and police personnel to AUSSOM, who have sacrificed for Somalia's peace, while commending international and regional partners for supporting the nation's stabilization efforts. ■
