KABUL, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Herat Municipality has officially inaugurated and put into operation five major urban development projects with a combined value of over 1.6 billion afghanis (over 25.4 million U.S. dollars) in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the provincial government said Saturday.
This significant investment underscores ongoing efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in one of Afghanistan's key western cities, the statement said.
According to the statement, these projects typically focus on critical urban services such as road networks, drainage systems, and public facilities, aiming to enhance the quality of life for residents and improve the operational efficiency of the cities.
The inauguration of these projects aligns with a broader national push for infrastructure development. Recently, development initiatives across several major Afghan cities, including Herat, have seen continued progress, with a total portfolio valued at billions of afghanis. ■
