ISTANBUL, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkish intelligence and security forces detained 10 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in a cross-border operation coordinated with Syria, Turkish state broadcaster TRT reported Saturday.
According to the report, all the suspects are of Turkish origin and allegedly joined IS after crossing into Syria, where they remained active in various units of the group.
Investigations also indicate that one of the suspects is linked to those responsible for a 2015 Ankara train station bomb attack, which killed over 100 people, said the report.
The detention was carried out after Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization identified the suspects' locations and coordinated with Syrian intelligence authorities to track their movements on the ground, it said, noting that the suspects were later captured and transferred to Türkiye.
Türkiye officially designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since been targeted by the group in multiple attacks. In response, Ankara has launched numerous counter-terrorism operations both at home and abroad. ■
