MADRID, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Luis de la Fuente warned against overconfidence as the countdown begins to this summer's World Cup finals.
Spain will travel to the United States, Mexico and Canada as European champions and one of the big favorites after an excellent qualifying campaign, but De la Fuente warned the Spanish team "have to keep our feet on the ground."
De la Fuente warned of the differences that exist between club and national teams.
"People don't realize the great parity that exists at the national team level. It has nothing to do with clubs and there are 11 good players in any team," he explained.
The Spain coach will give his 26-man squad for the World Cup on Monday and explained the difficulties it presented.
"The most important process is scouting, but the most painful thing is leaving out players who are capable of being there," he said.
De la Fuente also said players needed to think differently when they play for their country and their club. "Here, there are no club players; there are national team players. It's a different mentality," he commented. ■
