LOME, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Togo's economy maintained a strong growth trajectory in 2025, with real gross domestic product (GDP) reaching 5.65 trillion CFA francs (about 9.99 billion U.S. dollars), representing a 6.3 percent increase, according to official data released on Friday.

The National Institute of Statistics, Economic and Demographic Studies said the tertiary sector remained the main driver of the Togolese economy, contributing 3.5 percentage points to overall GDP growth.

The performance was fueled by robust gains in transportation, telecommunications and trade. In particular, the transport sector expanded by 16.2 percent in volume terms, supported by the continued dynamism of the Port of Lome, the institute said.

Meanwhile, the secondary sector also posted strong momentum, recording real growth of 7.5 percent, driven by a 16.9 percent increase in construction activity and a 10.6 percent rise in extractive industries.

The primary sector, largely dominated by agriculture, grew by 4.2 percent, slowing from 5.7 percent growth recorded in 2024.

According to the data, the economic expansion, combined with demographic trends, helped the country's GDP per capita surpass the 1,300-U.S.-dollar mark in 2025.
