JERUSALEM, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Friday that it had struck and killed two militants before dawn in southern Lebanon.
Israel's Channel 12 News reported that the two attempted to enter Israel to carry out an attack during the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, celebrated on Friday.
According to the statement, the IDF identified the two individuals moving suspiciously, hundreds of meters from Israeli territory.
After being identified and monitored continuously, the armed men were killed by an Israeli air force strike.
A ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel came into effect at midnight between April 16 and 17.
Despite the truce, Israel has continued carrying out attacks in Lebanon, while Hezbollah also launched strikes on northern Israel and Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon. ■
