RIO DE JANEIRO, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Pedro continued his prolific form as Flamengo advanced to the Copa Libertadores last 16 on Wednesday with a 1-0 home win over Estudiantes.
Brazil international striker Pedro capitalized on chaotic defending just after the hour as he pounced on a loose ball inside the area and fired low into the far corner.
The Argentine side had just 32 percent of the possession and one shot on target as it slid to its first loss of the campaign.
Pedro now has 18 goals and four assists in 32 matches across all competitions for Flamengo this year.
The result at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium leaves Flamengo top of Group A with 10 points, three clear of second-placed Independiente Medellin. Estudiantes is third, a point further back.
Elsewhere in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday, Junior Barranquilla won 3-2 at home to Sporting Cristal, Independiente Medellin won 3-2 at Cusco, Cerro Porteno prevailed 1-0 at Palmeiras, LDU Quito eased to a 2-0 home win over Lanus and Universitario drew 0-0 at Nacional Montevideo. ■
