SOFIA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's new minister of agriculture and food announced Thursday that the country is to establish a certification system to guarantee the quality of its rose oil.

Plamen Abrovsky told a press conference in Sofia that the price of Bulgarian rose oil is under pressure from unregulated imports and synthetic production, and therefore his ministry wants to give every rose oil producer in the country the possibility to certify their product.

He said this will be achieved through laboratory analysis by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency.

Registration numbers for rose oils will appear on the Food Safety Agency's website, so that buyers from all over the world can check their origin and quality.

"I am convinced that this will revive the image of Bulgarian rose oil, and increase its price," Abrovsky said.

Abrovsky formally assumed his role as the agriculture minister on May 8.

Bulgaria is one of the main global producers of rose oil. The ministry recently announced that in 2025, Bulgaria exported 744 kg of rose oil to markets such as the United States, China, Japan, India, Australia and Britain.
