DHAKA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has announced the introduction of a central emergency alarm system at medical facilities to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals and patients.
Bangladeshi Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bokul said on Tuesday that the system will be introduced on a pilot basis initially at two leading hospitals in the capital, Dhaka, after the Eid al-Adha festival, which is slated for May 28.
He said the government is also planning to set up a police outpost in central Dhaka's Mohakhali area, which houses several health agencies and hospitals.
The initiatives come following a series of recent incidents in which doctors, hospital administrators and patients were reportedly attacked in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country. ■
