HANOI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Five students drowned in the Lo River in northern Vietnam's Phu Tho Province on Monday afternoon, local outlet VnExpress reported.
According to local authorities, one student drowned while swimming in the river. Four other students rushed into the water to rescue the victim but were swept away by strong river currents.
Rescue workers had retrieved the bodies of all five victims by around 5:30 p.m. local time.
The incident is under further investigation. ■
