MACAO, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held its 2026 open day on Sunday, attracting residents to visit the legislature building and learn more about its operations.
Exhibition panels introducing the assembly's facilities were set up at the venue, while lawmakers and staff provided guided explanations to visitors. Legislative Assembly President Cheong Weng Chon and Vice President Ho Ion Sang also interacted with residents attending the event.
Booths and voter-registration self-service stations were seen on site to promote voter registration and raise awareness of key laws.
Legislative Assembly member Chui Sai Peng said he was pleased to see residents visiting the assembly and hoped they would feel that lawmakers are there to serve the public and that the legislature is accessible to the community.
"I saw many community groups organizing visits today, while some residents also came on their own. This helps the public better understand how the Legislative Assembly operates," he said.
First-time visitor Choi, a student who attended the open day with his family, toured several areas of the building. He said the visit provided an experience very different from watching legislative sessions on television. "Being able to visit the Legislative Assembly up close allows us to truly feel the solemn atmosphere here." ■
