YANGON, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Fourteen people were killed in accidents involving the Yangon Bus Service (YBS) in Yangon, Myanmar, from January to April, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Saturday.
To reduce accidents and ensure passenger safety, the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) has stepped up supervision of YBS drivers violating traffic rules, the report said.
The committee now holds educational seminars twice a month and carries out on-site inspections and enforcement, it said.
Currently, about 3,700 YBS buses and 7,500 drivers operate under the supervision of the YRTC, providing transport services to around 1.7 million passengers daily, it added. ■
