ROME, May 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Xinyu and Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei were knocked out in the second round of the women's doubles at the Italian Open on Wednesday after a straight-sets loss to Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.

The two pairs held serve for the opening seven games before Andreeva and Shnaider secured the first break in the eighth game to move 5-3 ahead. The match was then suspended for more than an hour because of rain.

After play resumed, Wang and Hsieh broke back and held serve to level the first set, but Andreeva and Shnaider responded with another break in the 12th game to clinch the set 7-5.

The Russian duo carried the momentum into the second set, breaking in the fourth game before pulling away to seal a 6-2 victory. They will next face Anna Danilina and Asia Muhammad in the quarterfinals.

"I think we played pretty well today," Wang said after the match. "They are both extremely strong from the baseline, and we were unable to capitalize on several deciding points."

In the singles quarterfinals, fourth seed Iga Swiatek cruised past fifth seed Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-2 for her first top-10 victory of the season. Swiatek will next face Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, who rallied past second seed Elena Rybakina 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Men's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will take on 12th seed Andrey Rublev of Russia on Thursday in a bid to set a new record for the longest ATP Masters 1000 winning streak in history.
