COLOMBO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has imposed fines exceeding 89 million Sri Lankan rupees (274,300 U.S. dollars) on traders found to have violated consumer protection laws during the first four months of 2026.
According to the CAA, its investigation officers carried out 7,334 raids from January to April, targeting offences linked to pricing, product quality, and the sale of goods.
The CAA said the fines were imposed after legal action was initiated against traders who breached consumer protection rules and regulations. ■
