ISLAMABAD, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Five Pakistani security personnel and seven terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the country's southwest Balochistan province on Wednesday, the military said in a statement.
The operation was carried out by troops of the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps in Nosham area of Barkhan district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military.
Security forces launched a sanitization operation to clear the area of terrorists. During the exchange of fire, troops engaged a group of terrorists, killing seven of them and recovering weapons, ammunition and explosives from the site, the statement said.
Five security personnel, including an army major, were also killed in the operation, the ISPR added.
The military said clearance operations were underway in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. ■
