SEOUL, May 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tax revenue rose for the first three months of 2026 due to a rapid increase in income and value-added taxes, government data showed Thursday.
The tax revenue totaled 108.8 trillion won (about 72.9 billion U.S. dollars) in the January-March quarter, up 15.5 trillion won from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Planning and Budget.
The collection of income, value-added and securities transaction taxes grew 4.7 trillion won, 4.5 trillion won and 2.0 trillion won each.
Aggregate revenue, including tax and non-tax revenue, came to 188.8 trillion won for the first three months of this year, up 28.9 trillion won from a year earlier.
Total expenditure swelled 1.7 trillion won to 211.6 trillion won in the cited period.
The central government's debt reached 1,303.5 trillion won at the end of March, down 9.0 trillion won from a month earlier. ■
