MINSK, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The second International Legal Forum of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) opened on Wednesday in Minsk.
The event, marking the organization's 35th anniversary, brought together about 70 delegates from CIS member countries.
At the opening, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Igor Petrishenko emphasized the significance of the CIS's 35-year legal legacy, noting over 562 active agreements and more than 7,000 legal documents within the organization.
Petrishenko expressed concern about current global challenges to international law, including attempts to replace established legal norms with unilateral rules and sanctions. He stressed the need for joint and effective responses within the CIS to these issues.
The forum featured a plenary session and thematic sections addressing modern international legal policy. ■
