GENEVA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) announced on Wednesday the addition of three new entries and the updating of ten existing entries across the United Arab Emirates to bolster the resilience of supply chains and facilitate the flow of key goods across the Gulf region.

The 13 entries under the UN Code for Trade and Transport Locations system, known as UN/LOCODE, include key inland logistics hubs such as the Al Fayah, Al Sajaa, Al Ain, and strategic logistics corridors in Abu Dhabi, covering railway freight stations, dry ports and storage facilities.

The move is expected to enhance inland logistics and multimodal transport corridors connecting industrial and storage hubs across Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai with export gateways such as the ports of Fujairah and Jeddah, which serve as vital alternatives to traditional maritime pathways through the Strait of Hormuz, the commission said in a press release.

"The accelerated issuance of new UN/LOCODE for the United Arab Emirates logistic hubs demonstrates how UNECE's global standards directly contribute to the UN system's crisis-response efforts under the UN Strait of Hormuz Task Force," the commission's Executive Secretary Tatiana Molcean said.

The UN/LOCODE system under the UNECE provides standardized geographic codes for trade and transport infrastructure worldwide, covering over 114,000 sites across 249 countries and territories.
