KABUL, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Authorities have put into operation eight water supply networks in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province, enabling people to have access to potable water, reported the official Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Wednesday.
Constructed at a cost of 47 million afghani (around 747,000 U.S. dollars) in four districts and financed by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, the essential projects would benefit 2,830 families, RTA said.
The government will construct more such projects to facilitate people to gain access to clean water in the country, RTA further said.
Afghanistan has been facing water shortages even in the capital city Kabul due to frequent drought over the past several years. However, by launching various projects, the government has been trying to manage water resources and overcome water scarcity in the post-war nation. ■
