NASSAU, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Michael Pintard, leader of the Bahamas' opposition Free National Movement (FNM), conceded defeat late Tuesday following the parliamentary election held earlier that day, and congratulated Prime Minister Philip Davis, leader of the ruling Progressive Liberal Party (PLP).

Speaking at a press conference, Pintard said the FNM has accepted the choice made by the Bahamian people and will be committed to them and show loyalty to the causes that affect their lives.

Since the country's independence in 1973, the PLP and the FNM have alternated in power. The country has been generally stable.
