CAIRO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League on Tuesday condemned the alleged infiltration of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) elements onto Kuwait's Bubiyan Island as a "dangerous precedent" and a flagrant violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty and security.
In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said the "armed infiltration" represents a grave escalation and the incident reveals a "premeditated intention" to destabilize regional security during an exceptionally sensitive period.
Aboul-Gheit demanded that Iran immediately cease all "hostile actions" against Arab nations.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kuwait's Interior Ministry said four infiltrators attempted to reach Bubiyan Island aboard a boat and were arrested on May 1, noting that the four belong to the IRGC and one Kuwaiti serviceman was injured during clashes with them.
Iran's Foreign Ministry rejected the claims as "baseless," saying that four Iranian officers had entered Kuwait's territorial waters due to a navigation system disruption while on a routine maritime patrol mission. It calls on the Kuwaiti authorities to resolve the issue through official channels and refrain from "hasty comments." ■
