LONDON, May 12 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has told his cabinet members that he intends to "get on with governing," and the Labour Party's process for challenging a leader has not been triggered, British media reported Tuesday.

"As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results, and I take responsibility for delivering the change we promised," Sky News quoted Downing Street as saying.

"The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a cabinet," Starmer said at the start of a cabinet meeting Tuesday morning.

Starmer is facing mounting pressure to resign following his party's performance in the local elections last week. Labour lost almost 1,500 council seats in England and surrendered control of around 40 local councils, including several traditional strongholds.

Speaking on Monday morning, Starmer said that while the results were "very tough," he would not be "walking away."

Miatta Fahnbulleh, a junior minister in the housing and communities department, resigned on Tuesday morning and called for Starmer to set an exit timetable.
