MADRID, May 12 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick confirmed to the press on Tuesday thar he has reached agreement with the club to extend his contact until 2028.

Flick was talking to the press two days after leading Barcelona to its second La Liga title in as many years since taking over at the Camp Nou.

The 61-year-old had a deal until June 2027, but will now remain at the Camp Nou for at least another year.

"I'm very happy, both for myself and for giving my team the confidence to work for one or two more years," he said in his conference ahead of Wednesday's La Liga match away to Alaves.

"Many coaches would like a three-, four-, or five-year contract, but in this case at Barca it's good to limit it, and I appreciate that," commented Flick, who didn't rule out staying beyond 2028.

"We'll go until 2028 and see; if everything goes well, we'll make the decision to stay another year. The club has the right, I have the right, and it's a good agreement," he explained.

Flick's father died in the hours prior to Sunday's Clasico against Real Madrid which confirmed Barcelona's latest La Liga title, and the German said the club's support had been another factor in convincing him to extend his stay.

"In recent days it has become very clear to me that I'm in the right place. I greatly appreciate everything that has been given to me and my family," commented Flick, who set his sights on winning the Champions League.

"Everyone has that incredible dream of winning the Champions League. We will try again and that's all I can say. I am grateful that they have given me the confidence to work here for many more years," he concluded.
