TEHRAN, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said here Tuesday that while Iran maintains a state of military readiness, its main focus remains on achieving lasting peace, according to the official news agency IRNA.
Speaking at a weekly press conference, Mohajerani said Iran had fought against the world's "biggest" military power during the 40-day war.
"We still have our finger on the trigger and are waiting for the determination of the negotiation's atmosphere ... Our main focus remains on lasting peace," she said.
Mohajerani noted that Iran will pursue diplomatic issues based on the three principles of dignity, wisdom, and expediency.
On Sunday, Iran sent its response to the latest U.S. proposed text for ending the war to the Pakistani mediator.
U.S. President Donald Trump then dismissed Iran's response, warning that the ceasefire is "on massive life support."
The 40-day war began with joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on Feb. 28. A ceasefire between the warring parties took effect on April 8.
Following the truce, Iranian and U.S. delegations held one round of peace talks in Pakistan's capital Islamabad on April 11 and 12, which failed to yield an agreement.
Over the past weeks, the two sides have reportedly exchanged several proposed plans outlining conditions for ending the war through Pakistan. ■
