MADRID, May 10 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona was crowned La Liga champion for the 2025-26 season after a 2-0 home win over Real Madrid on Sunday.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a powerful free kick in the ninth minute, and Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 18th after an excellent move involving Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo.
Real Madrid never looked like getting back into the game, and Barcelona was able to control the match in the second half.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made good saves from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the closing moments, but Barcelona's celebrations were never in doubt.
"Winning the title here against Real Madrid is a taste of glory," Barcelona midfielder Pedri said after the game.
"We are a fantastic team and played really well and defended very well. It wasn't as easy as people think," said an emotional Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, whose father's death was announced earlier in the day, in the post-game celebrations.
Elsewhere, Mallorca still has work to do to secure top-flight survival after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Villarreal.
Villarreal, which has already secured a place in next season's UEFA Champions League, opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Ayoze Perez's penalty.
Vedat Muriqi made it 1-1 in first-half stoppage time after a bad mistake from Villarreal goalkeeper Arnau Tenas, who dropped a cross into his side's penalty area.
Valencia won 1-0 away to Athletic Bilbao thanks to a header from second-half substitute Umar Sadiq.
Hugo Duro missed a first-half penalty for Valencia, but the visiting side also had to thank goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski for several excellent saves to keep the score level.
Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams had to leave the game in the first half with a muscle injury.
Real Oviedo drew 0-0 at home to Getafe and will be relegated on Monday if Girona takes a point against Rayo Vallecano. ■
