SEOUL, May 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's presidential Blue House said Monday that any attack on civilian ships will be unacceptable after confirming that a South Korean commercial vessel was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
Wi Sung-lac, the top presidential national security advisor, told reporters that the South Korean government maintained that any attack on civilian ships like the HMM NAMU, the South Korean-operated cargo ship, will be unjustifiable and unacceptable, saying it strongly condemned the attack.
The HMM NAMU suffered an explosion and fire in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this month.
Wi explained that two unidentified flying objects struck the stern of the cargo ship, leading to flames and smoke accompanied by vibrations.
He noted that additional investigations will be required regarding the flying objects, saying Seoul will communicate with relevant countries to prevent such incidents from recurring while continuing to join the global efforts to ensure the safety of all ships, including those from South Korea. ■
