ABUJA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- All 11 occupants of a vehicle were killed after it fell off a bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Nigeria's southwestern Ogun State late Sunday, traffic police said on Monday.
According to a statement by Oludare Ogunjobi, commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, the occupants were trapped inside the vehicle following the crash, and rescue workers had to cut open the vehicle to recover the bodies.
A preliminary investigation attributed the accident to driving under the influence of alcohol and overloading, he added.
Deadly road accidents are common in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, poor road conditions and reckless driving. ■
