FRANKFURT, May 11 (Xinhua) -- About one-tenth German internet users in Germany fell victim to cybercrime and around one-third of those affected reported financial losses in the past 12 months, the results of a survey published on Monday showed.

The survey, conducted by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and the Police Crime Prevention Program of the State and Federal Governments (ProPK), found that 11 percent of respondents had been affected by cybercrime. In most cases, the incidents involved online shopping fraud.

Victims also reported cases of online banking fraud, unauthorized access to online accounts, and phishing attacks.

According to the survey, 33 percent of victims suffered financial losses as a result of these crimes, and among all the protective measures, strong passwords and antivirus programs emerged as the most commonly used.

BSI President Claudia Plattner called for more responsibility from manufacturers and providers of digital devices and applications, urging them to make secure products and services the standard.
