JERUSALEM, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Israel said on Monday it launched an interceptor at a surface-to-air missile fired toward an Israeli Air Force aircraft operating over southern Lebanon, triggering alerts in Israel's Mediterranean coast.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the missile, saying in a statement that it targeted an Israeli army drone in the skies of the Tyre region.
The group said it also fired rockets towards a gathering of Israeli army vehicles and soldiers in the town of Rishaf, saying it was a "response" to an earlier attack that killed and injured civilians in southern Lebanon.
No injuries have been reported among the Israeli troops.
The developments came despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect last month following weeks of cross-border fighting tied to broader regional tensions triggered by U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran. ■
