PHNOM PENH, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported products worth 11.12 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 21.7 percent, said a General Department of Customs and Excise report released on Monday.

The top five export destinations for the Southeast Asian country are the United States, Vietnam, Japan, China, and Canada, the report said.

Meanwhile, the country reported the total imports of 12.26 billion dollars during the January-April period this year, representing a rise of 18.3 percent year-on-year, the report added.

Ministry of Commerce's Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat attributed the significant growth to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Cambodia's bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, which have provided preferential tariffs for made-in-Cambodia products.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China-ASEAN Studies Center at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science in Phnom Penh, said the RCEP has become the major cornerstone for the kingdom's primary trade engine.
