SZEGED, Hungary, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China topped the medal table with four golds, four silvers and two bronzes as the three-day 2026 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Sprint World Cup concluded in Szeged, Hungary on Sunday.
China added one gold, one silver and one bronze on the final day of competition. Hungary finished second with 3-8-4, while Portugal ranked third with 3-0-1.
After collecting three golds, three silvers and one bronze on Saturday, China had two boats advance to the women's K4 500m final on Sunday.
Li Shuqi, Yang Li, Sun Mengya and Ma Yanan crossed the finish line first to secure another gold medal for China, while Teng Anshuo, Jiang Xina, Shuai Changwen and Lin Wenjun claimed bronze in the same event.
The women's K1 200m final was fiercely contested. China's Yu Shimeng maintained her race strategy and pace throughout before overtaking rivals in the final 10 meters to take silver, finishing just 0.04 shy of Poland's Anna Pulawska, who claiemd the title.
This year's World Cup has been included in the qualification system for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The Szeged meet attracted 673 athletes from 61 countries and regions. Szeged is also set to host the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2027.
The next stop of the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup will take place in Brandenburg, Germany, from May 14 to 17. ■
