JERUSALEM, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Israel canceled all public events along the Lebanon border on Thursday, citing fears of retaliation by Hezbollah over the killing of a Radwan Force commander in Beirut.

Earlier in the day, Israel confirmed that the commander had been killed in an airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday.

On Thursday afternoon, the military announced the cancellation of all public events in the area following "situational assessments," citing "the possibility of enemy fire by the Hezbollah terrorist organization toward the area."

The military "urges the public to remain vigilant and alert," it added.

The Home Front Command did not change the overall alert level.

Also on Thursday, the military said several projectiles and drones launched toward Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon were intercepted.

It added that Hezbollah militants launched explosive drones that detonated adjacent to the soldiers in the area. No injuries among Israeli forces were reported.
