THE HAGUE, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Dutch police confirmed late Thursday that a firework bomb detonated at the national office of the Democrats 66 (D66) party in The Hague. No injuries were reported.
According to The Hague police, the explosion occurred at around 21:00 local time (2000 GMT). "No one was injured, but there was damage to the building. We have just arrested one person," police said in a post on social media platform X.
D66 leader and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten condemned the incident as "a cowardly act of intimidation" in a social media post.
In a statement, D66 said more than 30 people were inside the building at the time of the attack. "They are unharmed, but the impact on those present is significant," the statement said.
Local media reports said a suspect had been arrested, but the motive of the attack is unclear and an investigation is underway.
D66 is part of the Netherlands' coalition minority government. The current cabinet, sworn in on Feb. 23, is a coalition between D66, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). ■
