TEHRAN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said on Thursday that parts of a pier in Qeshm Island have been targeted during an exchange of fire between Iranian armed forces and the "enemy."

Identifying the pier as "Bahman," Fars reported that multiple explosions were heard in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island, though the cause remained undetermined.

The explosions in Bandar Abbas were related to the Iranian air defense's confrontation with two "micro aerial vehicles," the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted local sources as saying, adding that the United Arab Emirates could have been behind the attack on the pier in Qeshm Island.

Also, the semi-official Mehr news agency said Iran's air defense has managed to shoot down two "hostile" aircraft over Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.

Iran's state-run IRIB TV quoted an informed military source as saying that following an attack by the U.S. "aggressive" army on an Iranian oil tanker, "the enemy's invading units in the Strait of Hormuz came under Iran's missile attack, and were forced to flee after sustaining damage."

It added that Iran has launched missiles toward a U.S. warship in the Strait.

Meanwhile, Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin quoted a senior U.S. official saying that the U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran's Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas, but added that it is not a restarting of the war or an end to the ceasefire.
