KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's AirAsia X Berhad has signed a firm agreement with Airbus for 150 A220-300 aircraft worth about 19 billion U.S. dollars at list prices, marking the largest firm order globally for the A220 model, the low-cost airline group said on Thursday.
The agreement also included the flexibility to increase the order to 300 aircraft from the A220 family to meet future growth demand, the company said in a statement.
It added that the aircraft would support network optimization through improved fuel efficiency and right-sized capacity deployment across its expanding regional operations.
"This order reflects our long-term discipline and the scale of our ambitions...which allow us to build the world's first true low-cost network carrier," said Tony Fernandes, chief executive officer of Capital A and advisor to AirAsia Group. ■
