KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) increased by 4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, official data showed Friday.
The manufacturing sector index showed an expansion of 5.7 percent, while the electricity sector recorded growth of 5.2 percent during the quarter, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
For March, the IPI rose by 3.1 percent year-on-year, led by 5.5 percent growth in the manufacturing output.
On a month-on-month basis, the IPI rebounded by 9.3 percent after registering a negative 9.2 percent growth in the previous month. ■
